Melting Principle Of Fused Cast AZS Block

There are three purposes of fused cast azs block melting process: coordinate the melting of alumina and make it re-crystallized into corundum; make zirconia which is decomposed by zircon sand melted and re-crystallization to baddeleyite; Produce the molten liquid which has even chemical composition with less carbon content and containing the least bubbles, and the molten liquid has a certain temperature and good casting performance which can lead to excellent product.

The physical and chemical reactions in melting process of fused cast azs block are as below:

1. Alumina

The liquid is crystallized to corundum when cooling

2. Zirconite

it mainly contents zirconium silicate which is decomposed as below:

The melting point of zirconite is 2430 degree, but with the help of flux, the temperature do not need so high, in a word zircon is transferred to baddeleyite from low temperature crystal to high temperature crystal.

3. Soda ash and borax

After the decomposition of soda ash and borax, they combine with SiO2 in zirconite and other flux such as iron and titanium impurities, then generate silicate glass.

4. Melting process

There are other reactions due to electrode in constant burning:

Partial oxidation is restored by carbon; silica is oxidized to SiO2 in the relatively cold part of furnace, and precipitate to white floccules.

5. Raw material moisture or moisture absorption

Water is decomposed with the high temperature inside furnace, and produces hydrogen, then hydrogen melts into the molten liquid which make molten liquid foam or not easy to shrink, thus cause casting shrinkage holes or appear a large number of pinhole in dense part s. most people think that water can be dried inside furnace, however, through actual observation, material layer directly collapses and gets into the high temperature liquid in the arc without period of drying, as the temperature in furnace is quite high, there is no time to dry due to the material immediately fused. So furnace material must be completely dry without any water, and then dense fused cast azs block can be produed.
